Week 5 Reflection

Microtheme Draft:

Every time that I try to focus on getting school work done, I get caught up on some form of social media scrolling through and wasting my time. No matter how hard I try to manage my time efficiently, I find myself on my phone. I imagine others have experienced similar situations where they lose track of time spent scrolling through social media. Does social media affect time management?

Although we might be aware that social media affects our time management skills, we continue to use it to communicate and keep up with our friends' lives. We might try to show them that we are good friends when we see their notification pop up and answer it right away. We may use social media because our assignment is not due until later, so we might think using social media for a little will not be harmful. However, the little short time spent on social media turns into an hour and soon the assignment is due. We may also use social media to keep up with current events because it may seem “quick” and “easy” to check, but that may turn into hours following up with it.

If we could begin to think more seriously about the effects social media has on time management, we might find that putting time limits on social media usage could lead to more productive behavior. School work could be completed long before it is due, allowing for students to have more time in their day to be productive. Perhaps addressing this concern could end the high rate in which social media is used throughout the day.

My Thoughts:

After reading over my microtheme, I thought I did a good job keeping a neutral position and not creating a bias towards my topic. However, I do believe that some of my wording in each paragraph could be improved upon as it doesn't seem to flow naturally. Overall, this draft is a solid base that contains potential to be something meaningful.

  1. Hello, Writing with no bais was harder than I thought. Sometimes when a topic is a meaningful bias is always sort of in the way. I think this was important to learn too. Writing from a neutral position is something helpful in the real world.
