Week Three Reflection

This week has been filled with many highs and lows as I adjust to my new schedule of classes and athletics. I learned that I need to manage my time management skills better and stay on top of my school work. I have been very consistent with showing up to off season soccer training and going to the gym 6 times a week. However, I always seem to be pushing off all of my school work until late at night or the next day which has already led to my missing the due dates for one of my assignments. This next week I'm hoping that I can continue with staying consistent with athletics, but also carrying that over to my school work. I'm going to look over all my classes' syllabus and write down what I need to get done for the week in order to stay on schedule.

After reading chapter 1, I learned many new different concepts about writing that I never really thought about before. This chapter lays the foundations that will guide readers into become good writers. One concept that this chapter talks about is the importance of rhetorical context. Within this type of writing,  writers learn to vary between closed and open forms of prose. Closed form prose can be defined as explicitly stated writing in which most college professors expect. Open form prose is reduced to more of summary style writing used in narratives.

This connects to the real world because throughout this semester we will be using both types of prose to complete writing. Our main projects in this class will be written under a closed form prose in which a thesis and related body paragraphs will be used. Our weekly blogs and free write will be more often written in open form prose as it will hold little to no structure. After our discussion on Wednesday in regards to Chapter 1, I will combine everything I read in order to become a better writing, in addition to, what was discussed in class with Dr. Smith.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Dylan Morgan, I am currently a freshman majoring in Business Economics, however, I might switch my major to Finance. In my future, I plan on doing something related in the business field whether it's through business or finance. My main interests include playing soccer, hanging with friends and family, and watching sports.

I began my soccer career when I was 6 years old playing rec with one of my friends. This eventually lead to me playing travel soccer where I have been able to go to many different places including Las Vegas, Florida, Denver, and North Carolina. The competition in these tournaments became increasingly hard as I faced some of the best teams in the nation including the number 1 team at the time. I soon started high school were I transitioned to playing both high school and travel soccer. I attended Lockport Township Highschool and during my senior season, my team made it all the way to state where we finished in 3rd place, which is the highest we've finished in school history. This final season, I was given an all region honor and ended up committing to play here at North Central. Over spring break, I am going to be traveling to Italy with my teammates where we will play some games and practice.

When I'm not playing soccer or going to class, I enjoy listening to music, watching movies, and playing videogames. My favorite genre of music is probably rap, but I do still enjoy listening to many other genres. I listen to music almost anywhere I go whether I'm driving, at the gym, doing schoolwork, or just relaxing. My favorite movies to watch are action or comedy movies which includes the Marvel and Star Wars movies. When I go home for the weekend I get to see my family which included my mom who is a teacher, my dad who is an engineer and a brother and sister.  In addition, I have a 2-year-old dog named Bear and he is a labradoodle.

I enjoyed the first week in CARD 101 where I got to learn the structure of the class and the upcoming projects we will be doing. I like the idea of freewriting at the beginning of class as I don't normally write unless it is for a project or something important. It helps me feel in control of my writing where there is no grade, so I don't have to worry or focus on organizing my thoughts in a specific way. I'm hoping this chance of freewriting helps me improve on my writing skills as the semester progresses.
