Week Three Reflection

This week has been filled with many highs and lows as I adjust to my new schedule of classes and athletics. I learned that I need to manage my time management skills better and stay on top of my school work. I have been very consistent with showing up to off season soccer training and going to the gym 6 times a week. However, I always seem to be pushing off all of my school work until late at night or the next day which has already led to my missing the due dates for one of my assignments. This next week I'm hoping that I can continue with staying consistent with athletics, but also carrying that over to my school work. I'm going to look over all my classes' syllabus and write down what I need to get done for the week in order to stay on schedule.

After reading chapter 1, I learned many new different concepts about writing that I never really thought about before. This chapter lays the foundations that will guide readers into become good writers. One concept that this chapter talks about is the importance of rhetorical context. Within this type of writing,  writers learn to vary between closed and open forms of prose. Closed form prose can be defined as explicitly stated writing in which most college professors expect. Open form prose is reduced to more of summary style writing used in narratives.

This connects to the real world because throughout this semester we will be using both types of prose to complete writing. Our main projects in this class will be written under a closed form prose in which a thesis and related body paragraphs will be used. Our weekly blogs and free write will be more often written in open form prose as it will hold little to no structure. After our discussion on Wednesday in regards to Chapter 1, I will combine everything I read in order to become a better writing, in addition to, what was discussed in class with Dr. Smith.
